Julie London

  

Julie London, nee Peck (September 26th, 1926 - October 18 2000) was an American actor and singer. Her career span over forty years. London was a torch performer well-known for her soft, smooth voice. She recorded more than 30 albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 and 1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her performance of "Cry Me a River" the song she first introduced on her debut album. In addition to her music announcement, London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in 1974 in her role as the nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!.



 



 London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her career started acting as an actress. London's 35-year acting career started in film in 1944, and also included roles as the female lead in numerous westerns. She starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958), with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959).
